TRIP 1 - TRIP 2 - TRIP 3

January 29th, 1999

Again I took an airplane, but this time it was Mexicana de Aviacion,it was like an air-bus and it would stop in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Merida before landing in Cancun. So it took a total time of 9 hours, but it was the cheapest option:)on the way to Mexico City I met this nice guy from Monterey on the airplane and we both are goignt o Yucatan and then Belize and so on, so we decided to keep out trip together and meet other new people on the way.

As soon as we arrived we took a bus to Playa del Carmen and then we went again to the same hotel I was staying in l ast time. This time we also had music,so it was cool, also cos we like the same music. Then I went back to the main street near the palza to walkaround and I saw Roy, the surfer from Santa Cruz again.ihihihi.He was sooo Gorgeous!! We went to the bus station and made a reservetion on a 3rd class bus non airconditioning to Belize City via Chetumal.

January 30th, 1999

We made it to Belize, wowwwwwww!!!At the bus station we met this cool girl from Germany called Lena and she joined us. She is really cool, she has made it ,all on her own, from Buenos Aires by a bus through Chile Peru Bolivia Ecuador, Colombia, Panama,Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala. Now she has go to back to San Jose de Costa Rica,so I decided we would do the same way at least to Honduras. We also met this Australian guy from Surfers Paradise, a surfer,in Chetumal and he joiend us too. So, we decided to overnight in a guest house in Belize City cos there were no boats going to the Cayos till next morning and the atmosphere around really looked dangerous...so we slept at this nice guest house called The Three Sisters for 4US dollars each and we got 2 double pretty clean rooms with fan. I shared the room with Lena.Lena and I have a lot in common: the way we travel, the destinations we like , and a strong sense of orientation. So it was definately gr8!

January31st-February 3rd, 1999

We took a boat to Cayo Caulker, after walking around this strange colonial city( I thought I would meet Indios and so on,but I strangely found a melting pot of Jamaicans,Indios and other mixed races...it was amazing!!It took 1 .45 minutes to get there cos this was a boat for local people and would take people to every Cayo like normal buses. And plus, a strong Rainf started and a lot of wind, so I started feareoign this small boat would drop us into the water and we would be eaten by the sharks...Finally we got there...It is a PARADISE!!!!There are no asphalted streets on the island and no cars, just bycicles and sandy paths all over the downtown and the jungle.Oh Geeeee, this is the kind of little colonial Island I had always been looking for!!!We decided to sleep at Tina's backpacker's hostel. It was absolutely great!!!!!We met this nice girl from Britain who lives now in Havana and this  Swedish sxe guy.  We all had different nationalities in this small Backpackers place, so had a lot of ideas and customs to absorbe from each other!!It was a very great family atmosphere, like the one I feel in San Francisco in our shared flat.During these days  we met the chief of the village and he took us to shark-watching at night, and we even touched a white baby-shark,it was a strange feeling..I was afraid but at the same time I loved the skin of this babyshark. We also took a 3 seat-airplane to make a tour of the Cayos from the sky...the views were absolutely great!! These days were what I had been looking for for ages, and I evens pent them with the right people:) I could not really ask more...

February 4th-7th, 1999

We took a bus to Punta Gorda. We asked fishers to give us a ride to Livingston , Guatemala. We decided to hang around there a few hours and take another boat to Omoa, Honduras. We took this boat and we had a nice view of the nice coastline. The colours of the sea are so awesome here in the Caribbean!!We finally got to Roatan and we spent some days there and ont the nearby islands. We just relaxed, slept on hammocks, partied on and got stoned.iihihiihh.We met a lot of Swedish people and Australians here. People are very friendly and I felt really comfortable, like I did In Belize.

February 8th, 1999

We took another fucked up ferry and got to the Swan Islands, half way to Jamaica. It was so great. We slept on an almost desert island. There was just the a family there and we didn't even have to pay for it.They let us stay but wanted to learn something about our culture in exchange. People here are so mellow and laid back. The man offered to take us snorkelling in place where there are no sharks and he even picked tropical fruits for us. It was a happy family. They told us legends of the sea, about the Nino and when they almost died on that little island cos of the rough wind with the Nino and stuff like that.Their children study in Tegucicalpa, which is the capital.Last but not least, they cooked supergood rice with coconut. That was radddddddd!!!

February9th-12th, 1999

I took a boat back and then we took a flight from La Ceiba to Linvingston, Guatemala and from there we took a lancia and then bus back to Belize, where we decided to stop again in Placencia. Man,everything was simply majestic, like you see on the magazines..I could not believe this was true...a dozen miles of perfect white beach...here sand, coconuts, reggae, and lobster burritos combine to create a paradise...Here we slept at Lydia's Rooms,(tel.23117) near Flamboyant's restaurant. We slept on hammocks on the upstairs porch. We paid 25 Belize Dollars for a double.

February 13th-15th 1999

I took a bus to San Ignacio to hang around in the jungles, the Maya ruins and so on. As soon as I got in Ignacio I popped into a music festival. I was alone here ,as my friends went to Tikal where I had already been. I started to ask the locals and they told me Belizeans strive to mantain their African musical traditions. This triplet-based music is played on large wooden drums, with raggae influences due to the very large amount of Jamaican immigrates.Locals say that the "punta" you dance along this song is like "having sex with your clothes on"...oh well..Haven't realised  so far...hiihhi Next day I went to visit the Clarissa falls which were a beautiful like-in-a-dream-picture. Next day I went to see the Maya ruins of Cahal Pech, which is a medium-size Maya centre, one of the earliest ones(1000BC to 900AD).I also went to see another site called El Pilar, but there were people making researchesa nd excavations, so I could not see that much actually...

February 16th, 1999

I took a bus back to Belize City and then another bus to Caracol/Chetumal(Mexico boarder). It was a long journey. When I got at the boarder some  stupid police officers tried to rip me off and wanted 27US dollars to let me enter the country again..what a shit... I finally just paid 17bucks...it is a lot...but better than staying there the whole fucking night..I took the bus again and headed to Tulum. I was too tired to go on to Playa del Carmen, so I decided to stay there a couple of days. I met some people I had already met in Playa nd partied with them, did some scuba-diving and did nothing all day but relax.

February 19th, 1999

I went to another Cenote near Valladolid, it is called X'Keken, better known as Dzitnup. It is an impressive subterranean natural formation, 1 mile from Valladolid. It was great, again I swam in this cenote too. The legends say that Maya used to throw dead sacrified bodies in the cenotes and poeple then drank the waters who came from these cenotes...so they died of diseases caused by these "dirty waters". It was very interesting.  Then I was hitchhiking and some tourists from Germany picked me up and we drove to street markets and to see a typical dance from Mexico. There was also a buffet,in which I was supposed not to eat as I had not paid, but I ate anyways.ihiiihih

February 20th, 1999

I took a bus to Akumal. It seemed like this bus would never arrive, and the funny thing about this freeway is that poeple get of in the middle of nowhere and get inside the forest....who knows where they live...ihihihi Akumal is kind of laid back and there is not so much to do as in Playa. It is really good for poeple who look for total relax I guess.

February 21st-22nd, 1999

I took a MAYA DE ORO bus to San Cristobal de las Casas. I t took about 13 hours to get there, but the price of the bus was really good. I overnighted at POSADA VILLA BETANIA(tel.84467) for a hefty 50 pesos, single room. This city really shows its colonial past, especially the Cathedral. I was also hiking a little mountain with some locals who told me they would go to see UFO's...Nvere seen one here in Mexico hiihhi.

February 23rd-26th, 1999

I took a bus to Palenque where I knew I would meet the guy from Monterey and Lena from Germany again. The price of the bus was 55 pesos for a 4 hours drive. We guys met at the busstation and then went to look for an accomodation. We decided to stay at Posada Canek, a triple room 100 pesos. The Paleque ruins used to be a very  important Maya centre during the classic Maya period(AD300-900).

Next days, we just chilled around and my friend Lena got lost for 2 days one night cos of magic mushrooms.ihihiihih.She finally showed up again.ihihihi.It was very funny.

February 27th-28th, 1999

At 8am I took a bus to Playa del Carmen again and after a superboring vomit-smell-like bus ride I got there around 8pm.(195 pesos).I went to sleep in another hotel cos the other one was booked up. This one was a bit more expensive, but I was soooo tired, that I didn't mind to give out more money for a night. And I also had a tv. I went to eat at 100% natural and again int he main street I met Roy who had just come back from a surftrip to Costa Rica...Gorgeous again..But this time I got more disappointed than I could be as If I saw him with a female....He was at the place where he sleeps on the hammock and he was kissing his male-friend.....So I kind of followed him the  whole night and I eventually gave up all hopes...He is gay..:(So,...I had been wasting these three months thinking about him....without knowing I could never have a hope...ihihiih, but at least he was the one who told me about the vegetarian restaurant 100%NATURAL.Next day I slept till late and I decided I would relax and be a tourist during these last days in Mexico, not a  traveller:) So i went to gthe beach to get tanned and a stupid guy from Southern Italy started to talk to me and I made up some story about myself, that I was from San Francisco or something...hihihihi and I understood from the way he talked that he wanted to pick me up.ihihih so as he was a jerk I decided to go to eat at the 100%NATURAL so that he would offer me the lunch..ihihihihiI was sooooooo MEAN then ,,,but he did it and when he asked me out...I sad"Sorry my plane is leaving in two hours I gotta go back to Cancun" I took a taxi and went to Cancun. I felt very guilty but still I wanted to eat there again but not waste my money on food, so I had to behave like that ihihihih. But it was sooooo funny!!!

March 1st-3rd, 1999

I spent again three days in Isla Mujčres, my fave ever. And I just partied on with Brian the Australian guy I had met going to Belize,we four had all kept in touch through email:)We met people from all over the world and we really had a great time, Weather was supergood:)

March 4th, 1999

I early said goodbye to Brian and I went to the airport to get on my flight to Guadaljara again. As I had to spend 8 hours there for the next plane to Mexico City and then Los Angeles, I decided to get out of the airport and go to see the town of Zapopan. I took a bus to there for just 4 pesos and I admired the beautiful BASILICA de la VIRGEN de ZAPOPAN, a giant 16th-cewntury church.

I went back to the airport and took a plane to LA via Ciudad de Mexico. Again flying with Mexicana de Aviacion was great and I met very funny gringos on the plane:)ihihih
